For a leader on the move, His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, is always connected to people and events in the country. New media and technology have turned enablers and kept the communication channels open with the leader.
On Sunday, he tweeted that the UAE is part of a larger Arab family and every individual is treated as an equal. He said he’s happy to talk to people and to listen to what they have to say.
With the holy month of Ramadan fast approaching, he’s reaching out to the less fortunate and has sought proposals on how to improve their plight.
On Saturday, he received responses to his initiative and said they will be discussed. He hoped the dining tables of all people will be abundant and it will be a season of giving in the true sense.
In his reply to Ali Abdullah Al Harmi and Marwan, who invited him to have Iftar at their residences during Ramadan, he said: “Thank you Abdullah and Marwan. All the houses of the people of the UAE are my home, and I pray to Allah that He will make your dining tables abundant.’’
When Ahmed, an Arab Gulf Cooperation Council citizen asked Shaikh Mohammed if the proposals are only for UAE citizens, he tweeted in response: “My brother Ahmed, UAE is part of one Arab family, and I am always happy to interact with you and value your suggestions.’’
Shaikh Mohammed is a regular on Twitter and has a whopping 942,753 followers. With 783 tweets to his credit, he airs his policy plans, business decisions and life in general using the handle @HHShkMohd.
On Saturday, he spoke highly of Emirates, a ‘‘development success story and a national accomplishment. It serves our children and the future generations’’.
