A blind man who was last month arrested by police and later released over terror activities and in connection with the grenade attacks at the Machakos Country Bus, Nairobi has been found dead in a mortuary in Wundanyi.
The body of Mr Mohamed Kassim and that of Samir Hussein were found dumped on the roadside in Voi area before that of the former was first taken to the mortuary.
That of Hussein was collected minutes later. They all had their private parts and eyes gauged out and seem to have been killed somewhere else and their bodies dumped there.
Kassim’s lawyer Chacha Mwita told The Standard he was informed that the two were arrested on Tuesday in South Coast before their bodies were found in the area, a claim that police deny.
"The body of Kassim (the blind man), I am informed has been found in the same mortuary in Wundanyi. And there are others still missing who were arrested together with Samir and Kassim," said Mwita.
The two had earlier on been linked to the Somalia’s militant group Al Shabaab and arrested on several occasions. When he was arrested and released on March 17, Kassim told The Standard that the officers seemed to establish if indeed he was blind or not.
"They asked me about some cars that used to frequent near the mosque and I told them I did not know about the same," said Kassim then.
Hussein has a terror related case pending at the Kibera Law Courts and was due for mention on May 29.
Further, he had been linked to Muslim preacher Aboud Rogo Mohammed who was in January arrested and charged with possessing guns and hand grenades and preparing to commit a felony.
According to Coast PPO Agrey Adoli, Hussein had complained saying his life is in danger after some of Rogo’s supporters accused him of being a police informer. He denied police had knowledge of the two killings or other three missing youth.
"We are investigating to know if it was a case of murder committed by people known to him because he had been accused by some of his friends of being a police informer," said Adoli.
He added postmortem exercise was scheduled to be conducted on the bodies on Friday before they could be released to the families for burial in accordance with the Muslim traditions.
Kassim was in March picked from outside the Jamia Mosque in Nairobi by undercover Anti-Terror Police Unit officers and driven around†the city as he was being questioned.
